Turn up the music, dim the lights, and throw a dance party right in your living room! Sure, it's not like a club, but you'll have space to have fun, let your hair down a bit, and sing at the top of your lungs with no one around to care. It's not only fun, but also helps to relieve stress, so there's no excuse not to do it!
How to celebrate New Year at home: Create a 2021 Scrapbook
You know all those photos you take in 2021 and promptly forget about them? Come this New Year, there's nothing better than giving them the display they deserve by creating a 2021 scrapbook to commemorate your year. You'll be surprised at how good you feel seeing all the highlights of your 2021 spread out in front of you. At the same time, this is also a fun, creative project that will have you feeling inspired for the next year.
Play virtual games: Virtual New Years Eve Trivia
Our New Year's Eve parties usually include some fun party games, and even if your family or friends live far away, that doesn't mean you can't all participate together! Set up a time and a virtual platform for your crew to log in for a virtual game night. When the games are over, you'll be able to ring in the new year together on the Zoom screen if you start later in the evening.
For instance, you can choose to play Trivia. This is a popular game all year, but especially at New Year's. You can play virtual trivia with your party attendees and ask either general or New Year's Eve-specific questions. A minimum of 10 questions and a maximum of roughly 20 is a good rule of thumb.
Make a "Lucky" New Year's Eve dinner
One advantage of being home for New Year's Eve is that you can skip the expensive dinner in a noisy restaurant and prepare a special meal at home instead. If you're looking for festive dinner ideas to ring in 2022, incorporate lucky New Year's traditions when coming up with the menu.
For instance, you can consider making delicious traditional Chinese food, where noodles represent long life and soup dumplings are said to bring happiness and prosperity. Other options you can think of are to cook up Southern American classic recipes, like savory collard greens or black-eyed peas, for extra good fortune.
How to celebrate New Year at home: Have a (virtual) movie night with your homies
If there are a few hours to skill before the New Year's ball drops, consider popping in a movie and making popcorn as a snack to eat. If you're living away or fancying a virtual watch party with your friends, take your time since there are many apps that allow you to stream your favorite content with your attendees. For example, Teleparty is a Google Chrome extension that allows you to watch Netflix, HBO, Hulu, and Disney+ together with others who also have an account. It synchronizes the video playback for you, allows chatting, and makes it easy to watch TV shows and movies together even when you're apart.
Laughter is the best medicine ever, and the voices of your favorite characters from classic series like Friends, Sister, The Office, or Girlfriends will surely keep you company long into the night. Just a tip for you: make sure that you time your movie correctly as you may wish to tune into the festivities as the clock strikes midnight!
How to celebrate New Year at home: Pull out all the board games
A New Year's Eve party at home isn't complete without some board games. From Monopoly to Medium to Twister, everything should be on the table. On New Year's Eve, nothing is too childish, foolish, or long to play. In addition, it's the quickest way to get your housemates or partner to laugh out loud.
Call family members, relatives, and friends to check-in
New Year's Eve is the perfect time to get updates on your loved ones like you've been meaning to do. Check-in with homies and friends who are far away or probably also celebrating alone, and wish them well in the new year. Give the gift of encouraging words and they'll bring them some cheer and help to tie the bond between you two.
Bake and decorate cakes
Baking sweets can make things better, so spend some time on New Year's Eve experimenting with a new cookie, brownie, pie, or cake recipe. After that, decorate and taste it! It's relaxing, entertaining, and absolutely wonderful, especially when you’re having your family members help around.
Pop a bottle of your favorite champagne at midnight
The start of a new festive year is surely a reason to celebrate! Hence, make sure you have at least one bottle of bubbly on hand to pop at midnight.
Moët & Chandon Moet Imperial Brut is the most iconic bottle to look for in such a situation. Alluring, classic, and sophisticated, the brut from Moët & Chandon Champagne brand is undoubtedly the bestselling Champagne in the world. The minerally undertow of the drink imparts a subtle, smoky note that blends perfectly with flavors of dried pineapple, salted almond, biscuit, and white peach. With a fine bead and well-honed acidity, it has notably honored Hollywood's movie stars and appeared in some of the most iconic films, like Pretty Woman and The Great Gatsby.

Read through your own journals from the past year
The start of a new year is usually a good time for self-reflection. Take the time to read through your journals to see how far you've come and how your life has changed and evolved over the last year. This does not mean to judge your past self and regret; but rather to enjoy and appreciate how each small step you took throughout the year led you to where you are now.
How to celebrate New Year at home: Do not forget to pop confetti at midnight
You might as well make the most of it when the clock strikes twelve! Even if your party is more low-key than usual, you can utilize as many noisemakers, confetti poppers, or sparklers as you wish to ring in 2022.
How to celebrate New Year at home: Toast in the new year with 3 delicious cocktails
Set the new year on fire cocktail
This New Year's party, you don't need fireworks to kick off some pyrotechnics. Muddle lime juice with simple syrup and fresh mint leaves, then top with scotch and a tiny bit of Campari. Even if you stop there, that's a terrific drink, but adding a lime shell packed with sugar and Bacardi rum that's then set aflame takes it to the next level.
- 6 fresh mint leaves
- 3/4 oz lime juice, freshly squeezed
- 1/2 oz of simple syrup
- 2 oz single malt scotch: Dewars White Label is your best choice as it toasts a blend of Scottish heather and honey with notes of unripened pear and a hint of oak.
- 1/2 oz Campari
- Garnish: use flaming lime shell
- Add the mint leaves, simple syrup, and lime juice into a Collins glass and press all ingredients gently with a muddler.
- Add Dewar’s scotch and fill the glass with crushed ice.
- Pour Campari on top and fill your glass with more crushed ice.
- Garnish the cocktail with a flaming lime shell.
French 75 cocktail
What about this festive combination of gin, simple syrup, lemon juice, and Champagne for your New Year party? Just shake everything except the Champagne ingredient together and strain it into a Champagne flute, then top with your favorite Champagne and garnish with a lemon twist. This French 75 is really easy to make and even easier to drink. It offers a boozier kick than a classic Mimosa, while still providing the ultimate refreshment.
Whenever you choose to drink the French 75 cocktail—and whichever spirit you choose as its liquor base—this is one classic drink you’ll want to rediscover again and again.
- 1 oz Tandequay gin
- 1/2 oz lemon juice, freshly squeezed

- Strain the mixture in step 1 into a Champagne flute.
- Top the flute slowly with the Champagne.
- Garnish your cocktail with a lemon twist.
Champagne holiday punch
When you’re celebrating New Year with a crowd of people, punch is the way to go. It not only saves you from spending the entire party playing bartender, but a large punch bowl provides an excellent way of elevating a regular event into a festive affair. This Christmas holiday punch in our guide today is particularly festive.
The nutty, earthy flavor is enhanced perfectly with Old Fashioned bitters, while Cointreau adds sweetness and lemon gives off brightness. Of course, Champagne still plays a starring role too, with its light bubbles to bring everyone together for the holidays.

- 1 cup of your favorite Champagne
- 1/2 cup of Cointreau
- 1 cup of club soda
- 3/4 cup lemon juice, freshly squeezed

- 8 dashes of Old Fashioned bitters
- Garnish: use star anise pods, pineapple slice, and grated nutmeg
- Add 2 cups of ice cubes into a punch bowl.
- Add all main ingredients into the bowl and stir gently to combine.
- Garnish your punch with some pineapple slices, whole star anise pods, and grated nutmeg.
