Some must-try wine cocktails for International Women's Day

If you wish to spice up your IWD celebration, just grab a bottle of wine for some of the best-mixed drinks out there. It doesn’t matter if it’s an intense red, light white, refreshing rosé, or even champagne! There are various tasty ways to mix up each wine varietal into a flavorful, refreshing drink. Here are some of the best wine cocktail recipes to try!

New York Sour

The New York Sour is one of the most delicious wine cocktails available. The whiskey sour layer is first: sweet, tangy, and well-balanced, with a hint of maple sweetness. Then, on top of it, float a layer of red wine to give interest, complexity, and delicious acidity. Not to mention how lovely it looks with the two-toned layer!

Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon whiskey, Jack Daniel's Old No.7 is your wise choice
  • 1 oz lemon juice
  • ½ oz maple syrup or simple syrup
  • 1 oz dry red wine
  • Optional garnish: decorate with a lemon twist

Instructions

  1. Add the Jack Daniel's Old No. 7, lemon juice, and your choice of syrup to a cocktail shaker and fill it with a handful of ice cubes. Shake the container until very cold.
  2. Strain the drink into an Old Fashioned glass or ice-filled lowball.
  3. Carefully pour your choice of red wine over the back of a spoon to just above the surface of the drink to create a layer on top.
  4. Serve the cocktail with a lemon twist if desired.

Red Sangria

Sangria is another popular wine cocktail to try this IWD! Essentially a wine punch, it's the perfect delightful mixed drink. Here’s how to make red wine sangria like the original Italian version, featuring wine-soaked fruit, brandy, and a splash of orange liqueur. It’s a harmony of flavor and also pretty hands-off to make, too!

Ingredients

  • 1 fresh orange, and a green apple
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 750ml bottle dry red wine, chilled
  • ¼ cup of brandy
  • ¼ cup of orange liqueur, such as Cointreau
  • 1 fresh lemon, sliced into rounds
  • 1 1/2 oz of sparkling water, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut the orange (leave the peel on) and apple into bite-sized chunks, then add them to a pitcher. Sprinkle some sugar and stir the container. Let them stand for around 20 minutes at room temperature.
  2. After that, pour in your choice of red wine, orange liqueur, brandy, and lemon rounds. Stir and refrigerate for at least 1 to 4 hours.
  3. Pour the red sangria cocktail into ice-filled glasses and top with a splash of sparkling water (optional). Add your favorite fruits to each glass, better on long skewers for easy snacking.

Red Wine Spritzer

If you don’t have enough time to make sangria, try a red wine spritzer! This wine cocktail takes around 1 minute to make, and it delivers the vibe of sangria without the prep time. This spritzer cocktail itself is bold and full-bodied, yet at the same time refreshing and bubbly. You're free to add some slices of oranges as a garnish, and you'll have the fruitiness of sangria in no time.

Ingredients

  • 4 oz chilled red wine
  • 4 oz of soda water
  • Some orange slices, optional for garnish

Instructions

  1. Pour the red wine into a cocktail glass, then add the soda water. Gently stir the glass once.
  2. Add the orange garnish and enjoy.

International Women's Day 2022: How the day began

International Women’s Day is a worldwide event that celebrates women’s achievements in every aspect- from the political to the economic, and the social life- while calling for gender equality. The day has been organized and celebrated since the early 1900s and is now observed each year on March 8.

International Women’s Day began to gain momentum around the time of the #MeToo movement: since, it has become increasingly popular, and is celebrated by millions of people, businesses, and charities around the world. The day is usually commemorated with art performances, speeches, rallies, networking, conferences, and marches all across the world.

And, although IWD was started a century ago, there are still many good reasons to celebrate it now. Here is everything you need to know.

There is still an urgent need for the day as its original aim – to achieve full gender equality for women in the world – has not been fully realized. For instance, there are still issues such as female leaders are still lacking, gender pay gap, violence against women and girls persists, and women continue to lag behind males in education and healthcare in many countries around the world. Hence, on IWD, women universally come together to shine a light on these inequalities – while also celebrating the accomplishments of women who have overcome these barriers.

The official theme for International Women’s Day 2022 is #BreakTheBias - which promotes the shaping of a world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. Whether it is our mom, wife, sisters, friends, or girlfriend, their unconditional love and support are what make us tick. They are special and should be celebrated. And, though a wine gift is not too big to convey to them what they mean to us, it definitely is a way of making them feel a little special.

So, what are you waiting for? International Women’s Day is here so it’s time to place an order using our promo program - Get P150 off on all wines for every purchase of P2000 with code WINE150! Surprise them with a token of love, support, and show them how much they mean to you!
